FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our pathology services, workflows, and support to help you get the most Diagnexia.
Who's responsible for the diagnoses?
Every diagnosis comes from a US board-certified pathologist, most with fellowship training and licensed in your state. Diagnexia covers the malpractice insurance, so there is no need to arrange individual coverage. Cases are reported under the appropriate CLIA certification allowing you to maintain full medical-legal oversight similar to a locum physician.
How do I ensure quality control?
You have full transparency once a diagnosis is finalized with access to reports, digital slides, and the pathologist’s credentials. As a part of our onboarding process your customer success manager will review which pathologist(s) will be reporting cases for your practice, providing you an opportunity to review their impressive credentials. Our rigorous onboarding ensures every case is reviewed by a qualified, US board-certified pathologist. We apply automated and manual quality checks throughout the workflow, including slide QC at ingestion and diagnostic QA upon reporting. Our QA protocols exceed CAP standards, and you can audit any case at any time.
Are these US-based pathologists?
Yes, all diagnoses are rendered by US board-certified pathologists. Many have completed fellowship training in their subspecialties and are affiliated with renowned hospitals across the country. Every pathologist is fully licensed in the states where they practice.
How disruptive is the setup?
We take an iterative approach to integration that meets each client’s workflow. Many start by uploading a simple manifest and receiving reports through our secure portal which is a quick and effective way to get started. Others choose to automate the manifest and have results delivered directly into their LIS, enabling tighter integration with minimal manual handling. The most seamless option is for digital labs that scan cases on-site and transmit them directly to Diagnexia, eliminating shipping altogether. While setup timelines vary, most labs begin sending cases within days.
What about our LIS integration?
We connect seamlessly with your existing system — Epic, Cerner, PowerPath, CoPath, and more so reports flow back through your normal channels. Implementation timelines vary based on your LIS setup, but the process is straightforward, with no new software to learn and no workflow changes for your team.
How do shipping logistics work?
We provide prepaid FedEx labels for overnight shipping to our Chicago facility. Slides typically arrive by 11 AM, and cases are processed promptly to keep turnaround times fast. We handle all logistics and tracking at no cost to you.
Can I speak directly with the pathologist?
Yes. Our pathologists are available for case discussions via phone or secure messaging, ensuring continuity of care and clinical confidence. You’ll work with a dedicated team of subspecialty experts, enabling familiarity over time without the overhead of full-time staff. We match each case with the most appropriate pathologist based on subspecialty, availability, and licensing so your patients always benefit from expert review.
What if we need to amend a report?
Same process as internal amendments. Direct pathologist communication for clarifications. Full audit trail maintained. Speedy addendas to keep turnaround times short. Your medical staff policies remain in control.
How do we handle tumor boards and interdisciplinary conferences?
Our pathologists can join your tumor boards virtually, depending on availability and clinical need. While this isn’t a standard part of every engagement, we aim to support collaborative care when appropriate. Many facilities value the continuity and expertise this offers compared to rotating locums.
What are the hidden costs?
There are none. No setup fees. No Diagnexia integration costs. No shipping charges. No minimum volume commitments. You only pay per case read, with transparent pricing aligned to CPT codes. Most labs save 25% or more compared to traditional locum coverage.
How hard is it to cancel?
You’re never locked in. There are no termination fees, no data access restrictions, and no long-term commitments. While formal notice isn’t required, advance notice helps us manage capacity and ensure seamless support for all partners. You’re free to stop sending cases at any time. We succeed only when we’re delivering value every day.
Why is this so much cheaper than locums?
There’s no agency markup, no travel or housing costs, and no minimum daily/weekly monthly assignment commitment. Our pathologists work efficiently from optimized facilities, so you pay for diagnoses not downtime. Unlike locum coverage, which often takes weeks to arrange and comes with high overhead, we deliver rapid, scalable support without the extra costs.
Who else uses Diagnexia?
As a growing service Diagnexia has been trusted by 15 US hospital systems and independent labs across the country. From 50-bed community hospitals to 500-bed academic centers as well as multi-site large reference laboratories, Diagnexia has reported on a variety of case type, processing thousands of cases annually for our clients. References available for facilities similar to yours.
What's your uptime reliability?
99.9% on-time delivery over the past 24 months. Multiple pathologists for every subspecialty ensure no single point of failure. If a pathologist is unavailable, another subspecialist immediately takes the case.
What happens if something goes wrong?
Direct phone line to our medical director. Same-day resolution for any issues. Full malpractice coverage. Complete transparency on any quality events. We're easier to reach than your locum agency—and actually accountable.
Are you financially stable?
Venture-backed with 5 years of runway. Profitable on every case. Growing 200% annually. We're building the future of pathology services, not flipping a staffing agency.
